Another 'Glee' star is dropping the musical antics for a much braver and action-packed project that is expected to become a massive hit this 2015.
According to Hypable, Melissa Benoist, who played Marley Rose on Fox's musical series 'Glee' has been cast as the lead and titular actress for CBS' upcoming superhero themed series "Supergirl."
Benoist apparently bested other a couple of actresses who auditioned for the lead role, including 'The Originals' star Claire Holt and Elizabeth Lail, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Apart from appearing on 'Glee', the 26-year-old rising actress has also made notable appearances on 'Homeland' and 'The Good Wife' and she was even in the Oscar-nominated film 'Whiplash,' Us Weekly has learned.
Following the announcement, Benoist couldn't contain her excitement and took it to Twitter saying, "But seriously, sans emoji... I AM SO EXCITED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #Supergirl"
The synopsis for the show, which is going to be produced by Greg Berlanti, the man behind 'The Flash' and 'Arrow,' reads: "Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago," the synopsis for Supergirl reads. "Since arriving on Earth, she's been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be."
This is the second time that a "Glee" actor scored a lead role for a different series in a different network. Grant Gustin, who played Sebastian of the Warblers , is currently getting a big boost in his career for portraying the titular role for 'Arrow' spinoff series 'The Flash.'
No word yet on the official cast and Benoist’s costars for the show, but Ali Adler from ‘The New Normal’ is going to pen the script with Berlanti executive producing, alongside Sarah Schecter.
