On Friday, a young Canadian man was arrested for trying to storm the cockpit on board an American Airlines flight.
Flight 320 heading from Montego Bay, Jamaica to Miami had a scary end as a "disoriented" 24-year-old Ryan Snider attempted to rush the cockpit when the plane was taxiing in Miami International Airport. Passengers reported that Snider got up from his seat, quickly ran to the front and started screaming "Get me off the plane!"
Ronald Webb, one of the 165 passengers on the flight, told Florida TV station WSVN: "He just ran to the front, pretty quickly...We were a little bit worried because we didn't know what it was all about. It was frightening with terrorism as it is these days."
American Airlines released a statement saying, "After landing a passenger was not cooperating with crew member instructions and was acting suspiciously. Airport police were called and they removed the passenger from the plane." American Airlines said in a statement to CNN that the passenger was "disoriented" and stood up from his seat in the main cabin as the plane taxied to the tarmac. He then "moved toward the front of the aircraft where he was subdued," CNN reports.
Two first class passengers and a flight attendant tried to calm Snider down, but were unsuccessful. Malik Cann, a trained body guard who was on board, stepped in and locked Snider's arms behind his back, and held him down, preventing his from entering the cockpit.
"We weren't going to allow him to harm anybody or get to the cockpit," Cann said. "He was screaming. 'Get me off the plane. Get me off the plane.' That's all he wanted to do."
Authorities took over when the plane stopped. They put Snider into a van on the tarmac and drove him to the Homeland Security Offices at the airport for questioning.
Snider will most likely face federal charges of interfering with a flight crew. He will head to federal court in Miami on Tuesday.
The incident is not terrorism-related, as Snider was not on the no-fly list, said the FBI, who is investigating the issue. They released the following statement: "We are aware of an incident on a plane in bound to MIA today (AA 320) in which a passenger reportedly rushed the cockpit door. The FBI is investigating the alleged incident, nevertheless the plane did land safely without damage to the plane or injuries."
Some believed that Snider may have been drunk or he just wanted to make a scene.
