Melanie Griffith, as Antonio Banderas has admitted, will "always" be the love of his life. The "Mask of Zorro" actor, 54 years old, officially split from Griffith, 57 years old, just last June.
He and Griffith have been married for 18 years. Their fans, who have always been vocal about their happiness with their idols managing to stay happily married for so long, are sad when they opted to end their relationship through a divorce. Thankfully, though, they stated that they wanted to proceed with the process in a "loving and friendly" manner.
Despite their marriage issues in the past couple of years, Banderas still decided to include Melanie Griffith in the cast of "Automata." It is a sci-fi movie which he co-produced and also starred in.
Additionally, even if they had already gone public with their decision to separate and Griffith had already lasered off Banderas's name on her skin, the actor could not think of a time in his future where he would ever stop caring about her.
When he appeared on "El Hormiguero," a Spanish TV show, he told the host, "It was a hard year. I had a lot of work and my private life was also hard. But, life goes on. I really admire Melanie as an actress. I have always said that. I have a big respect for her in her career. For that reason, she is in the film, 'Automata.' She is a person that I loved, I love, and I always will love, whatever our status is."
This recent comments about his former wife are only one of the very few times that he had spoken up publicly about their split. After all, he did somehow promise that he will keep the details regarding the split a secret.
"Me and Melanie have agreed that, on our divorce, we're not going to make any comment. It is our agreement, and, therefore, there is nothing to say," he previously told the press.
