Simon Cowell will reportedly returning to Fox, a year after the network decided to cancel his internationally famous talent show, "X Factor." According to multiple online reports, the British man is presently in negotiations with Fox regarding a production deal.
Dana Walden, the Chairman of Fox TV Group, said, "What we are exploring is an overall deal where he would become an international production pod on the reality side. The company's co-chairman, Gary Newman, also provided some more specific details regarding the projects that could be potentially included in the deal.
Newman mentioned that Fox is in talks with the popular music mogul about "a performance oriented show," among other series concepts. The network could be venturing into a new take on the reality genre of a performance contest.
Simon Cowell got to meet with Newman and Walden during their trip to London in late fall.
A talent competition, entitled "Rising Star," on ABC was regarded as a flop, and broadcast networks have been a bit apprehensive about launching a new one since the news of the show's demise broke out.
Still, Simon Cowell remains steadfast in his views regarding "X Factor." He said at Mipcom last fall that the network "gave up too early." He also added that "'X Factor' is the best music format in the world." He finished his statement with, "I haven't given up on 'X Factor America' yet."
Sadly, though, the network did not have the same sentiments as they have opted to pursue a whole new direction with regards to talent shows.
Newman and Walden spoke very highly of Simon Cowell at TCA. Newman said, "We have a tremendous amount of respect for him - being able to find stars, being a tremendous talent magnet." Walden then added, "He is a person that epitomizes showmanship. He has a spectacular eye for talent unlike anyone else. He is a star maker."
