Kentucky teens crime spree made the headlines early Sunday morning. These teenage sweethearts were found grabbing some shut-eye inside a stolen pickup truck in Florida.
Now that they have been found, the suspected multi-state Kentucky teens crime spree, which includes destruction of property, cashing in stolen checks, and vehicle thefts, have come to an end.
Dalton Hayes, 18 years old, was being detained inside a county jail, while Cheyenne Phillips, 13 years old, ran away with him nearly two weeks ago. They were both from Western Kentucky, but their case was turned over to the Florida Department of Children and Families, according to the authorities.
According to the Grayson County Kentucky Sheriff's Office, they both surrendered without incident, especially as they were already surrounded by law enforcement officers in a parking lot in Panama City Beach.
Hayes was already on the Wanted list in Kentucky for a warrant of charges of interference with child custody. Since the Kentucky teens crime spree have been turned over to Florida, authorities have already started the process of successfully extraditing them back to their hometown, where the youngsters could end up facing multiple felony charges.
Phillips's father had reported his daughter missing on Jan. 3, but the teenage sweethearts has actually been already on the run for nearly two weeks. During the search, the sheriff's office added that no one was injured.
The teens have been suspected of stealing a car around Jan. 11 back in Kentucky. Plus, they reportedly drove it across a cattle farm, which, in turn, caused thousands of dollars in property damage.
Apart from that, they were also suspected of stealing a red Toyota truck, which had a certain firearm inside. They used this vehicle to drive almost 600 miles to South Carolina, where they were seen on a surveillance video at a Walmart store in Manning. It was in this store where the police believe that they cashed in two stolen checks.
