An "X-Files" reboot is finally in the works 13 years after the hit American sci-fi series wrapped up in 2002.
According to Deadline, Fox has confirmed that an "X-Files" reboot is going to happen and that the makers of the iconic series are looking into reuniting the show's lead stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson for the small screen.
Fox's decision to reboot the almost-decade long sci-fi drama show comes after the successful run of its "24" limited series.
Fox TV Group Chairman Gary Newman has already confirmed that they are now in talks for a follow-up to Chris Carter's supernatural show.
"It's been reported, and it's true, that we've had some conversations about [reviving] X-Files," Newman said at the Television Critics Association. "But I have nothing that we can announce at this time."
On the other hand, Newman's co-chairman Dana Walden revealed that they are still only at the logistical stage of looking into the people who would be available to work on the reboot.
"Gary and I both worked [at 20th Century Fox Television] through the entire run of The X Files. It was a great experience. We've maintained good relationships with Chris, David and Gillian. We're very hopeful, but it's hard. The actors are very busy. They have a lot going on. Chris has a lot on his plate, so it's just trying to carve out the time," Walden said.
Ahead of Fox's announcement however is Carter's revelation last summer that he was already in conversations with the network, 20th Century Fox TV and the studio behind his hit series for the reboot.
One big problem that Fox needs to resolve first is the schedule of lead actors Duchovny and Anderson.
While the 54-year-old actor is preparing for his upcoming NBC series "Aquarius," the 46-year-old actress is currently appearing on NBC's "Hannibal," according to Entertainment Weekly.
It can be noted that the series has already led to a movie franchise but fans just can't get enough of the series that they are now also asking for another movie instalment.
Moreover, the series was such a major hit that it spawned a comic book instalment, "The X-Files: Season 10," which basically picked up where the franchise left off, Comicbook has learned.
