Former Golden State Warriors head coach and current ESPN NBA analyst Marc Jackson has emerged as the leading candidate to take reign as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the event David Blatt is relieved from his duty, Yahoo Sports NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported.
As the impasse between the Cavs players and Blatt is slowly getting out of hand, several NBA insiders are already anticipating the inevitable in the Cavaliers' coaching staff.
Blatt, who has carved a reputation as one of the most successful American coaches in Europe, is now facing the grim possibility of being fired three months into his NBA coaching career.
According to Wojnarowski, Blatt is currently in a tight situation with several players in the Cavs locker room openly expressing their frustrations about his inability to turn the squad into an Eastern Conference beast. Instead, the Cavs have to settle with a 20-20 record behind the Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors, Washington Wizards and the Atlanta Hawks.
The NBA Insider thinks the Cavs' front-office, despite showing their all-out support for their coach during a recent press conference, will soon drop an ax on Blatt if their record doesn't improve as the soonest possible time.
One name that is constantly being mentioned as a potential candidate should the Cavs' head coaching post becomes vacant is Mark Jackson, who is signed with James' company Klutch Sports.
"Whatever James' agenda on the coaching front, there were those who believed they had it pegged back in the summer. It was no accident Mark Jackson left one of the most powerful agents in basketball to become a client of Paul's," Wojnarowski stated.
"Paul had no coaching clients, but immense leverage within the Cavaliers. To hear Jackson overpraising James and the team's talent on television - even defending James on giving Blatt a tepid public endorsement - delivers light in itself to this alliance."
Jackson had an amazing three-year run with the Warriors, leading the team to two consecutive playoff appearances and sowing the seeds for the development of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
