Memorial day weekend is one of the biggest travel weekends for the United States. Summer is approaching, it's a long weekend, school is wrapping up and people are looking to get away.
The automobile club AAA is predicting that 2.5 million people will be flying around the country over the weekend. Although this is a dip from last year, airports will still be crowded and check-in and security lines will still be a scary thought for those who don't like crowds or waiting.
The location-based social networking service, Foursquare has analyzed check-in data to determine which airports are going to be booming and bustling with crowds of holiday travelers.
No matter what, all airports are going to seem a little more crowded this weekend. If you're not a fan of crowds, you may want to find another travel alternative this weekend, but the roads will be even busier than the skies. The least you can do to make your travel easier is to check-in online before getting to the airport.
Here is Foursquare's list of the busiest airports this upcoming weekend.
1. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
Atlanta's busiest airport will be even busier this upcoming weekend, especially for those flying on Delta airlines, as Hartsfield- Jackson is a Delta hub.
2. San Francisco International Airport
San Francisco reaches the No. 2 spot on the busiest airports this weekend. As a tip, try to book a mid- or late-morning flight as morning flights are often delayed due to fog.
3. Chicago O'Hare International Airport
Chicago O'Hare International Airport hits No. 3 on the busy airport list. Bad weather, especially in the afternoon, can ground flights all over the country. If traveling domestically, you may want to use the less active Midway Airport instead.
4. John F. Kennedy International Airport
JFK is predicted to be the busiest of the three major New York City-area airports, but even LaGuardia and Newark won't bring relief. They're on this list too.
5. McCarran International Airport
This Las Vegas airport will be bustling with those going to Sin City. Las Vegas is also part listed as the No.1 summer travel destination according to Orbitz.
6. LaGuardia Airport
Last year, 25 million people flew out of New York's LaGuardia Airport. It is also a Delta hub and home to many American Airlines flights. Just eight miles from the heart of New York City, Manhattan, you can guarantee this place will be busy.
7. Denver International Airport
This Colorado airport will be busy, but there are volunteer airport greeters wearing white cowboy hats who are available to help answer your questions and make your travel as easy as possible.
8. Boston Logan International Airport
Boston is a busy city and flights can be crowded and expensive. The nearby airport in Providence, RI is less crowded and sometimes a less expensive alternative.
9. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
Last year 32.8 million passengers utilized this airport, making it the 17th-busiest overall, but it is predicted to have large crowds this Memorial Day Weekend.
10. Newark Liberty International Airport
Even though this final airport on the list is located in New Jersey, it is a popular choice for New York travelers, especially those taking international flights.
