Passenger Delta flies to New York with only one other person. Today, flights are almost always packed that finding an empty middle seat has become somewhat of a rare luxury.
The passengers of Delta flight 6259 were very much surprised when they found out that they were going to travel with just the of them on board. They had absolutely no complaints as they had the plane all to themselves.
The flight that they were on was a regional jet that was operated as a Delta Connection flight. The plane left Cleveland and was headed for New York LaGuardia on Monday with all but two of the seats empty. The website of the airline, as well as the company's tracking service, FlightAware, showed that the plane was a 65-seat Bombardier CRJ-700 regional jet.
The other passengers of the Delta flight were rebooked because of other itineraries after a string of flight delays. Plus, Monday was also a rough day for air travel, especially with a combination of ice, snow, fog, and rain that reportedly affected a multitude of airports in the Midwest and East.
As for the passenger Delta flight, Chris O'Leary first thought that he was going to have the entire plane to himself. He even took to Twitter to tell everyone about his rare experience when the plane started to pull away from the gate.
He wrote, "They rebooked everyone but me on another flight to LGA. So, I am literally the only person on this plane." He also told ABC News that he was given a personalized safety demonstration, as well as a one-on-one briefing from the captain.
His solo travel was cut short, however, as the plane shortly returned to the gate to pick up another delayed passenger who was also not among those who were rebooked. Nonetheless, the rarity of the incident was not lost on O'Leary.
He said, "It was definitely the most memorable flight I've been on in recent memory, if only for the sheer lack of passengers to become bothersome. There were no screaming babies, no one listening to loud lyrics or reclining their seats or taking off their shoes."
The second passenger Delta was also very happy with the experience. According to O'Leary, "He took advantage of the fact the flight was empty and reclined his seat all the way and slept."
