The man awoken 12 years from coma was reportedly suspected to have cryptococcal meningitis. Doctors from South Africa were unsure of what to diagnose Martin, which led to wrong treatments thus rendering him even sicker each day. Eventually, Martin lost all ability to speak, move, and make eye contact with his family.
Doctors claimed Martin would die, but his parents continued to care for his then 12 year old body. Every day at 5 in the morning, Martin's father would dress him up for care center. By the end of the day, Martin would be bathed, fed dinner, and put to bed. His parents would also turn Martin in bed every two hours just to prevent bed sores. If not for his parents continuous faith in the impossible, the incident of man awakens 12 years from coma would have not been possible.
Now Martin, the man who awoken 12 years from coma, is able to talk and move with the help of his wheelchair. Of course, Martin has a story to tell after being stuck in a vegetative state for 12 years. In his book, "Ghost Boy: My Escape from a Life Locked Inside My Own Body," Martin tells the tale of being fully aware of his surroundings despite being immobile.
"Everyone was so used to me not being there that they didn't notice when I began to be present again," says Martin in a report by Who TV.
