Whether you want to spend Memorial Day weekend in a bustling city, or prefer relaxing on a white-sandy beach, there are affordable hotel accommodations in America's top destinations.
New York
World-class eateries, upscale shopping and Broadway shows can be costly, so finding reasonably-priced lodging in the Big Apple is a top priority for budget travelers. Steer clear of touristy areas that will put a dent in your wallet. The Lower Manhattan business district is teeming with well-appointed hotels that are cheaper on weekends since their clientele consists of business travelers. The New York Marriott Downtown, for instance, is within walking distance of the 9/11 Memorial, Wall Street and Chinatown, and a short subway ride from Times Square and Fifth Avenue. Also consider staying on the northern ends of Manhattan's Upper East Side and Upper West Side neighborhoods, where hotels tend to be cheaper due to their quieter, residential locales. For example, the Courtyard New York Manhattan/Upper East Side Hotel, in the upscale Yorkville neighborhood, is a moderately-priced property within walking distance of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park and dozens of restaurants, and a quick subway ride from Midtown.
Las Vegas
Sin City is a top draw on Memorial Day Weekend, and the Las Vegas Strip's centrally-located hotels tend to be the priciest. Choose hotels on the ends of the strip, such as Stratosphere Casino Hotel and Tower to the north and Excalibur Hotel to the south, which offer deluxe accommodations and full-service amenities at lower prices. Also consider off-strip hotels -- like Terrible's Hotel and Casino -- which are much cheaper since they are away from the action and the prestige of the big-name brands. The hotels make up for these shortcomings with quality lodging, cheap eats and drinks, and complimentary shuttle service to the strip. Downtown Las Vegas is teeming with historic hotels, such as the legendary Golden Gate Hotel & Casino, which are reasonably priced and steps away from the Freemont Street Experience.
Miami
iami's beautiful sunshine, vibrant nightlife and white-sandy beaches attracts tourists from across the globe. Finding reasonably-priced accommodations near the action can be a chore, especially during the busy travel season. Budget-friendly, Art Deco boutique properties like the Hotel Chelsea are plentiful on South Beach. They offer trendy accommodations and perks such as complimentary cocktail hours. Central business district hotels, such as the Hilton Miami Downtown, are cheaper on weekends, and minutes away from the Port of Miami and South Beach nightlife. North Beach is South Beach's laid-back neighbor. The area is peppered with moderately-priced properties like the Days Inn and Suites/North Beach Oceanfront, which are steps away from the Atlantic Ocean.
