Hitler's Bunker Museum might soon rise in Western Germany, close to Duisburg. The latest project involving the recreation of Hitler's bunker and office has been deemed "insensitive." Yet, this has not stopped museum director, Ingo Mersmann from pursuing it.
The Hitler Bunker Museum, Fuhrerbunker, is set for a summer opening in the Ruhr valley. Its location is approximately 300 miles from the original location where Hitler had married his wife, Eva Braun, before the couple committed suicide.
"We're just in the planning stages - the architects are working on it," shares Mersmann in a report by Daily Mail, adding, "We want this to be an educational experience so that families or groups of school kids can see how it really was: To experience the tiny rooms and the dampness of the bunker. We want to recreate it to show people."
Given the stigma attached to Hitler, the Hitler Bunker Museum set to be recreated has been deemed insensitive. However, Mersmann claims the project has been dealt with "carefully and with sensitivity." Mersmann adds that they do not wish for the area to be a place of pilgrimage especially for those who clearly identify with Hitler.
According to Mersmann, the Hitler Bunker Museum will feature only empty black frames to avoid the area being called a tribute to the late German leader. The museum director has planned against the idea of Hitler being seen as a hero.
"We certainly don't want to recreate a place for the misguided people who still see him as a hero to come as a pilgrimage. We are planning against that," adds Mersmann.
Hitler's Bunker Museum hopes to recreate the original Fuhrerbunker, which features Hitler's room, a clinic used by his personal physician, a secretary's office, and a radio room. Even with Mersmann's promise to handle the project with "sensitivity," an online poll shows not many individuals see it fit.
