Should Mia Khalifa be afraid for her dear life? It was reported today that the Lebanese-American porn actress was named the top-ranked star of PornHub and instead of receiving some love from many people, Khalifa has been drowned with hate and heavy criticism.
According to the Independent, the 21-year-old PornHub star got a lot of death threats after she was recognised by the adult website.
"Congrats @MiaKhalifa currently the #1 ranked pornstar on Pornhub taking the crown from Lisa Ann," the adult site wrote on social media.
Immediately after the announcement was made, the Miami-based history graduate received a lot of hate, most especially from the Middle East who called her "shameful" and "a disgrace" to the country.
On Twitter, Mia got death threats with one claiming that her head "will be cut soon." Another user even shared manipulated photo where Khalifa could be seen being escorted by Jihadi John, the ISIS militant said to be involved in the beheadings last year. The photo was captioned, "coming soon."
Apart from having Middle Eastern origins, Khalifa is getting a lot of criticism for wearing a hijab - a traditional female Muslim dress - in one of her adult films.
However, for Khalifa, it was not at all meant to be taken seriously. She even insisted to the Washington Post that it was purely "satirical" adding, "There are Hollywood movies that depict Muslims in a much worse manner than any scene Bang Bros [the production company] could produce."
Amid all the hateful responses she got, Mia Khalifa supporters have been defending the adult video actress as well.
"The moral indignation [...] is wrong for two reasons. First and foremost, as a woman, she is free to do as she pleases with her body," British-Lebanese author Nasri Atallah wrote on Facebook.
"As a sentient human being with agency, who lives halfway across the world, she is in charge of her own life and owes absolutely nothing to the country where she happened to be born," Atallah added.
Additionally, Khalifa has also defended herself from her bashers on social media, Daily Mail has learned.
"Doesn't the Middle East have more important things to worry about besides me? How about finding a president? Or containing ISIS?" the PornHub star wrote.
