Girl thrown from bridge by her father makes the headlines. A father from Tampa, Florida, hurled his five-year-old daughter off the bridge shortly after midnight on Thursday.
The 25-year-old John Jonchuck, Jr. has actually been previously arrested for battery against the mother of his daughter and also sought a domestic violence junction against her. Sadly, however, his request was declined a month ago.
The suspect refused to talk about what he did to his daughter even after he was arrested, making the motive for the heinous act he did to the girl thrown from bridge unclear.
According to St. Petersburg Police Chief Tony Holloway, Jonchuck, who had full custody of his daughter, was sitting inside his Chrysler PT Cruiser at the top of the Dick Misener Bridge only moments after he sped past a police officer, who, in turn, was on his way home.
Instead of going home, the police officer who spotted him speeding decided to pursue the driver of the Chrysler. When the driver got out of the car, the officer drew his weapon. Holloway said, "The suspect started talking, but the officer didn't understand what he was saying."
Jonchuck then walked over to the passenger's side of his vehicle, pulled out a young girl with her face buried in his chest. Afterwards, the suspect suddenly tosses girl thrown from bridge over the guard rail and the five-year-old victim plummeted 60 feet into icy cold water.
At that moment, it was not clear if the child, Phoebe Jonchuck, was still alive. To date, the investigators who are assigned to the case are still waiting for the results from the medical examiner's office. Holloway added, "I don't even know what was going through this guy's mind."
The police officer who witnessed everything immediately climbed down one of the ladders of the bridge in search of the girl thrown from bridge. That was when the suspect revved out of the scene. Thankfully, he was later apprehended when he went the wrong way on the interstate.
