Kornegay Sisters Kill Brother - Two sisters, a 15-year-old and an 11-year-old were charged with the murder of their 16-year-old brother. Reports say the Kornegay sisters killed their brother and the boy was shot dead while sleeping at their family home in Florida, US.

According to police, the 15-year-old, identified as Misty Renee Kornegay or Ariel, used her parents' handgun to shoot Damien Kornegay, her brother, the Mirror reports.

Officers have also confirmed that one of the Kornegay sisters who killed their brother was identified as 11-year-old Nicole Kornegay. She reportedly "assisted" her sister Ariel in the killing. However, authorities did not elaborate further on the younger girl's role in the shooting.

It remains unknown if the Kornegay sisters who killed their brother will be will be charged as adults. The process of determination could take weeks as it takes a Florida prosecutor 30 days to make his next move.

At a news conference Wednesday, State Attorney Jeff Siegmeister said the young ladies will be detained 21 days. There will also be an additional nine days - one at a facility in Ocala and the other at a Gainesville detention facility. Meanwhile, Siegmeister is to make a decision as to what charges the Kornegay sisters who killed their brother will ultimately face and if they are to be treated as adults in the case, according to CNN.

"Anytime you come on scene with something this horrific, where you have juveniles or children involved, it's pretty unsettling, even to seasoned law enforcement and deputies," Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter said at a press conference Tuesday.

"This is a very unusual event for us here in the community - very tragic," he added.

It was the 15-year-old who confessed to the crime, said Hunter.

Apparently, she was angry that her brother beat her up earlier that day and locked her in her room, she told investigators.

After the teenage boy fell asleep, she went to her parents' room to get a gun and shoot him, according to a police report obtained by CNN affiliate WJAX.

Ariel broke an exterior window and climbed into the room since their parents' bedroom was locked. She retrieved the 9mm handgun and loaded it before killing her brother with seemingly a single gunshot.

As for the 11-year-old Kornegay sister who killed their brother, she is also being held because she reportedly keept watch while her older sister broke into the bedroom, Hunter said.

On Wednesday, authorities said that the initiator of the Kornegay sisters who killed their brother, Ariel, has suffered years of physical abuse and was sexually abused by her uncle.

Police documents revealed that the 15-year-old's uncle was convicted of molesting her in 2010. At one point, the children's mother had also discovered the siblings having sex, according to USA Today.

The crime was revealed after the two sisters inadvertently tipped off an officer when they left their home and walked to the town of White Springs, nearly four miles away.

The 11-year-old called a friend's mother informing her that she had run away. Her friend's mother arrived at the home and she called police. After an officer came, Ariel reportedly played it cool and even put on makeup as she answered some questions and dodged others.

However, she later broke into tears and told the officer about her brother.

That evening, deputies went to the family's home and investigated the case of the Kornegay sisters who killed their brother. Police found that the 16-year-old boy's body had been on the living room floor.

Both girls were charged with premeditated murder. They appeared in a Florida court on Wednesday, but the hearing was closed to the media.

The three children, in addition to a 3-year-old daughter, had been alone in the home during the time the Kornegay sisters killed their brother. The toddler is now cared for by a child protection agency.

As the Kornegay sisters killed their brother, their parents were out of town on a truck driving job. They immediately returned to their home upon receiving the news, Hunter said. The kids' parents, Keith and Misty Kornegay, appeared before a judge and they were told of being charged with child neglect causing great bodily harm, which is punishable by up to 15 years in state prison.

The bond was set at $20,000 by thejudge. Keith was to have no contact with the children, but Misty can have contact though with state approval and supervision.
