Stephen Fry Fiance Goes To Court Following Engagement, Banned From Driving?

Stephen Fry Fiance - Spencer Elliott appeared in court together with his future husband Stephen Fry for speeding while driving $240,000 Aston Martin prior to a literary event in Wales. Fry was to present at the event and was running late, therefore Stephen Fry's fiancé clocked 162km per hour in a 110km per hour zone.

Apparently, the 57-year-old QI presenter convinced the 27-year-old comedian to "get a move on" as they rushed to the literary festival. Fry had been running late due to Bank Holiday traffic, the court heard.

As a result of breaking the speed limit, Stephen Fry's fiancé was banned from driving. The Aston Martin that Elliott was driving had reportedly been loaned to the couple so they could test drive it.

Stephen Fry's fiancé, Spencer Elliott's appearance in court occurred a day after the engagement was announced. Fry was present during the 30-minute hearing to support his partner. He appeared prepared to take to the witness box to provide a testimony for his fiancé, The Telegraph reports.

Fry also said that he takes "full responsibility" for the speeding.

"Mr Fry, who is Spencer's partner, was due as the new president of the literature festival and was due that afternoon to give his inaugural address," the lawyer of Stephen Fry's fiancé told the court. "They hit a large backlog of traffic and in a moment of indiscretion Mr Fry suggested to Spencer that he might like to get a move on."

"No other drivers were inconvenienced and he eventually did make it by a matter of a few minutes, in time for the festival," he added. "Mr Fry assumes all responsibility because it was his decision that made Spencer put his foot down."

Stephen Fry's fiancé was provided one week driving ban and ordered to pay $380, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

After the case against Stephen Fry's fiancé, Fry said that since announcing their engagement, it has been "wonderful." The couple is planning to tie the knot within the next year.

"It's been wonderful. We've not fixed a date and if I had I wouldn't tell you! But I can say it will be sometime within the next year or so," said Fry. "As is the way with these things, it became public when we filled in the paperwork. It was probably a bit much to expect a quiet ceremony."

The couple now dons matching engagement rings after announcing the wedding, which is planned sometime this year, reports Mail Online.

Meanwhile, the parents of Stephen Fry's fiancé, have expressed their approval, saying they are "over the moon" about the couple's engagement.

The engagement was announced this week after the couple's whirlwind romance. Elliott's parents, Robert and Miranda Spencer, confirmed they were delighted by the news of the soon-to-be union, according to Hello Magazine.

"I have met them and they are very nice," the 57-year-old TV star said when asked about his fiance's parents.

Stephen Fry's fiancé, Spencer Elliott, and Fry was first seen out together last November. It is only over the summer that the pair was understood to have become serious. The engagement came less than three years after Fry tried to commit suicide, while struggling to cope with fame, loneliness and a previous relationship's break-up. Fry, suffering from bipolar disorder, revealed in 2012 that he tried to kill himself with a cocktail of vodka and pills.
