Jon Jones Cocaine - UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones reportedly tested positive for cocaine traces before his eighth title defense Saturday in Las Vegas, according to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The commission had the Jon Jones cocaine tests on three separate occasions on December 2014, reports bloodyelbow.com. Two of the tests, administered December 4th, showed the presence of cocaine metabolites.
According to NSAC executive director Bob Bennett, as confirmed to ESPN.com Tuesday, the 27-year-old tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. Jones also informed the NSAC that he had admitted himself into a drug treatment center, according to ESPN.
"Jones has checked himself into a rehab center," Bennett said. "And at this time, I would direct any further questions regarding his situation to Mr. Jones or the UFC."
A urine sample collected Dec. 4 was analyzed by a World Anti-Doping Agency-approved lab in Salt Lake City. A lab report revealed that the Jon Jones cocaine test results were issued Dec. 23. However, the test was considered out of competition.
According to WADA's banned substances list, the substance found in the Jon Jones cocaine test, benzoylecgonine, is banned only in competition. Because of this, the result of Jones' fight against Daniel Cormier Saturday will remain standing.
Meanwhile, separate from this Jon Jones cocaine incident, Jones' statement at the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) in September is being questioned and is believed to be false.
During a press event in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, he said he lost his Nike endorsement due to a brawl he had with Daniel Cormier. Last week however, Jones backtracked his statement.
Now, the Nevada deputy attorney general is reportedly reviewing if Jones perjured himself under oath at the hearing, reports MMAFighting.com.
According to NAC executive director Bob Bennett, the commission knows Jones' comments prior to the UFC 182 and the matter has already been sent up the ladder.
"They're considering it for review," Bennett said. "It's nothing new to us. It would be concerning if anyone lied during testimony."
Jon Jones cocaine incident drug test hopefully won't affect the pound-for-pound fighter's career. Jones (20-1) is considered to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, having defeated Cormier via unanimous decision Saturday at UFC 182. In 2011, he became the youngest champion in UFC history, winning the title at age the tender age of 23. His eight consecutive title defenses have reportedly ranked him third all time in UFC history.
