DASH Diet is still the diet to beat by the many gimmicky diets out there. For one thing, this healthy regimen was named as the Best Diet of the Year.
According to TIME, the U.S. News & World Report is yet to see a diet as well-balanced and as advantageous as DASH Diet. Hence, it was named Best Diet of the Year for the fifth straight time now.
while it is certainly aimed at improving one's nutritional consumption and over-all heart health, DASH is also effective for dieters who want to lose weight.
The rules of engaging into DASH diet are pretty simple: eat vegetables and fruits from the healthy food groups, avoid sweets and red meat and minimize the use of salt.
Basically, DASH Diet wants one to eat meals rich in vegetables, alongside whole grains and low-fat dairy, reports Fox News.
For the fifth consecutive year now, DASH outpaced Weight Watchers and the Mediterranean Diet for the Best Diet of the Year title. This is because unlike other kinds of weight management programs, DASH lowers blood pressure without medication - the same reason why experts claim it to be the best diet for people with diabetes.
"The DASH diet has been our top diet overall for five years now and this is the fifth year we are evaluating and ranking diets," senior health and wellness editor at U.S. News & World Report Angela Haupt said.
"Our experts, who rate these diets for us, say it will end up being very good for your waistline, in addition to your high blood pressure, because it is such a common-sense, balanced diet," Haupt added.
Meanwhile, if one is looking to shed pounds, Weight Watchers continues top reign supreme as the Best Diet for Weight Loss. It is then followed by Healthy Management Resources, which is primarily a low-calorie, meal-replacement program.
Jenny Craig - a program that offers prepared meals - ranked third in the Best Diet for Weight Loss category.
The ranking of these diets are based on reviews made by a group of experts who checked each plan according to nutritional benefits, effects on diabetes, weight loss and heart health, WebMD has learned.
Haupt assured everyone that none of the members of the panel have financial ties to the diet industry.
Below is the official list of the diets that bagged the titles this year:
