Prince Andrew Scandal - A scandal recently broke out involving Prince Andrew and US lawyer Alan Dershowitz, which accuses them of having sex with an underage girl. Now, Dershowitz has reportedly begun legal action to clear his name.
The Prince Andrew Scandal surrounds a woman named Virginia Roberts, who had been told to have sex with Prince Andrew by American financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Lawyers representing the complainant say they are in preparation for the presentation of evidence of her claim, according to the BBC.
Meanwhile, the Buckingham Palace is in defense of the Duke saying saying that the Prince Andrew Scandal lacked "any foundation".
Dershowitz reportedly filed papers at a Florida court. The case is already being heard. He filed the papers to contest what he described as "absolutely outrageous claims".
The former Harvard law professor asked that his name to be removed from documents of the known "Prince Andrew Scandal", which accuses him and Prince Andrew of having sexual relations with the underage girl named Virginia Roberts. Roberts is known in court as Jane Doe #3. She was reportedly under the age of consent in the US at the time of the alleged incidents.
Dershowitz said he had been a victim of "salacious and scurrilous" allegations in the Prince Andrew Scandal, stating that he wanted to take action to protect his reputation in his submission to the court.
Even before his papers were filed, Roberts' lawyers said they are standing by their story in the Prince Andrew Scandal, even challenging Dershowitz to provide evidence refuting their allegations.
"We file a sworn declaration categorically denying the charges and proving by records and other travel documents that I could not have been in the places that she says that she had sex with me," Dershowitz told Reuters."
"We file a motion to intervene in the court and then we file a defamation action against the two lawyers and the woman. And then we file disbarment proceedings against the two lawyers," he added.
As for Roberts, she is reportedly joined by another woman in the Prince Andrew Scandal. They are trying to bring the case to court by joining action already begun by two other women, which is part of a broader case involving financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Roberts's lawyers also issued a statement after Dershowitz declaration. In the statement, they said that the four women "do not oppose Mr Dershowitz having an opportunity to present his arguments to the court."
The claims in the Prince Andrew Scandal which is made against Dershowitz and the prince were part of evidence submitted to a US court.
Now, it appears former US president Bill Clinton is getting into the mix, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
According to court documents, Clinton was only one of several of
Epstein's high-profile friends who he invited to his private island and fly on his jet. Epstein's phone directory allegedly showed that he had 21 phone numbers for Clinton or his aides.
The documents into the Prince Andrew Scandal suggests however tht Clinton committed no wrong-doing. However, they still set off speculation - particularly on the part of conservative online media - into the potential impact of the scandal on Hillary Clinton's presumed run for the White House.
The two other women, who are unnamed but referred to as Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2, are reportedly suing the US government for the case which is more known as Prince Andrew Scandal. According to them, the government has failed to protect their rights when it began entering a plea deal with Epstein. Epstein had been in jail in 2008-9 for a sex offence with a minor.
Meanwhile, there are reportedly signs that royal aides are preparing for a long haul over the claims against Prince Andrew and Epstein. Plans are speculated at being focusing on the coming months. Also, because the case has been ongoing for several years already, they have accepted that the issue may well drag on, reports The Guardian.
As for the prince, he has been supported by the mayor of London in this Prince Andrew Scandal. Boris Johnson said he had sympathy for the duke. "Prince Andrew, let us be very clear, is a guy who does a huge amount of unsung, unheralded work for this country. People go on and on about air miles and so on. But I've seen that guy get out there and sell this country, try and help British firms get business around the world," he said on LBC radio.
