Ukraine Bus Crash - A vehicular accident late Monday left at least 12 Ukrainian servicemen died in the eastern part of Ukraine, authorities said Tuesday.
According to the BBC, the Ukraine bus crash incident happened in an area where pro-Russian separatists and the army are fighting.
The Interior Ministry said that a dozen of Ukrainian servicemen died and over 20 others were wounded when the bus and the military tracks collided.
Local media say the accident was due to bad weather and the snowy road, but investigation is still ongoing.
The servicemen that were killed when the Ukraine bus crashed were identified to be members of the National Guard.
Authorities are currently appealing for more blood donations to help treat the injured soldiers.
A video footage of the site where the Ukraine bus and the heavy trucks collided was broadcasted on the Internet television channel Hromadske, and it showed the remnants of the bus along the side of a narrow two-lane road, reports ABC News.
"During a rotation of volunteers and servicemen in the area of anti-terrorist operations on January 5, military trucks and a bus collided in bad weather conditions," a police statement on the incident read.
Because of the Ukraine bus crash incident, other soldiers took up duties at the Donetsk Airport on Tuesday.
Eastern Ukraine continues to be a venue for fights despite a cease-fire reached in September last year.
However, since both parties failed to come up with an agreement for their buffer zone, the battle continues up to present day, Charlotte Observer has learned.
Since April, over 4,700 people have been killed because of the fight between the army and the pro-Russian separatists.
