Trey Rich killed in motorist accident on Christmas Eve. The famous football player from Belhaven University had just gotten off his job riding his bicycle when he was suddenly struck by another vehicle from behind.
Reginald Davis, the driver of the other vehicle, is presently at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and is, according to officials, in good condition.
Russel James, the Chief of Richland Police, mentioned that Trey Rich killed left his work place on Wednesday and was biking down 49 when a car struck him from behind. To date, it remains unclear whether or not charges will be pressed against Davis with regards to Rich's death.
James added, "The driver went another 200 to 300 yards out of control and crashed into another truck." He also stated that the police have not gotten the opportunity to talk with Davis regarding the accident that Trey Rich killed yet since he was hospitalized.
According to Belhaven, Davis was drinking at the night that the accident happened. James cannot confirm this information since blood test and toxicology results were not submitted to him yet.
Rich, who was only 26 years old, was actually a senior wide receiver from Memphis. Sadly, he was pronounced dead on the scene. The team that he has left behind has always respected his work ethic and what several people refer to as his "infectious smile."
According to Hal Mumme, the head coach at Belhaven, Rich's smile was very bright and his attitude was positive. According to him, Rich's pleasant personality made him an integral part of the group. "He was always happy, always willing to do what you ask," Mumme recalled. "He really endeared himself to his team mates."
Rich was also older than most of his team mates because he had to take some time to work his way through school. Mumme added, "He was a hardworking kid in everything he did, school and football, and everything else."
