Jeremy Lin, who is playing in the final year of his contract that pays him roughly $15M this season, never forgets to give back for all the blessing he has received throughout the year.
So for the spirit of the Holiday season, the Asian-American has given every player on the Los Angeles Lakers roster a personalized purple-and-blue Monster headphone. Yep, every Lakers’ player – including injured star Steve Nash and Xavier Henry.
.
Averaging at least 10 points and 4 assists per game, the 26-year old Lin might not be having the kind of season he expected since he was traded by the Houston Rockets to the Lakers during the offseason.
Nonetheless, the former Harvard standout is blessed enough for the Lakers organization for giving him the opportunity to play, and of course, paying him the biggest salary of his career at $14.9 million.
Issue with Kobe Bryant:
Since Bryant went berserk during practice two weeks ago, Lin has been critical about the Black Mamba’s shot-happy tendencies which he thinks disrupting the team’s chemistry.
In an interview with Serena Winters of Lakers Nation, Lin talked about how the Lakers will start winning games by playing unselfish basketball. He even recommended the Lakers coaching staff to emulate the system being used by Greg Popovich in San Antonio, which is based on ball movements and crisp passing.
"Look at San Antonio and what they're able to do with who they have at their stages in their career. It's a lot predicated on a lot of reads, a lot of motion a lot of smart basketball," Lin said in an interview with Lakers Nation right after the Lakers 108-101 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Sunday.
"We saw what we're capable of in that San Antonio game. [That] should be our blueprint. Unselfishness is contagious, playing for each other. When we want everybody to succeed it's awesome. When everybody's touching it, feeling it & is moving & everyone's scoring, that's contagious."
Bryant has called out his teammate many times for being soft and passive in games, while Lin assumed as the leading voice of a de facto movement within the organization to get the Lakers star start embracing ‘team ball’ philosophy instead of a hero ball approach.
Last Tuesday, the Lakers made a statement win against the best team in the NBA right now – the Golden State Warriors – 115-105 with Kobe Bryant watching on the sidelines. In spite missing Bryant’s 24 ppg production, the Lakers used 28 assists on 46 field goal conversions to outgun the Warriors high-octane offense.
The win against the Warriors validates Lin’s claim that teamwork is always key to winning. On Thursday, It would be interesting how Bryant responds to this call when the Lakers play the Chicago Bulls in a Christmas Day special at the United Center.
