Star Wars Christmas lights captured a lot of attention in Newark, California. A man named Tom BetGeorge took holiday decorating to the next level when he chose an intergalactic theme for his lights display.
His stunning presentation awed his neighborhood and his Star Wars Christmas lights were quick to go viral. He was even recently featured on "The Great Christmas Light Fight" on ABC. According to him, he uses the display to raise money for the homeless and the poor through his church.
BetGeorge is a music teacher at the Conservatory of Vocal and Instrumental Arts in Oakland. He made use of 100,000 Christmas lights in different colors and styles so that he could pull off an amazing themed show.
The choreographed number opens with the "Star Wars Main Theme" by John Williams. The show featured an electric guitar, multiple candy canes, a keyboard, and small Christmas trees. After the main theme, the show leads to other orchestral "Star Wars" classics, such as the "Cantina band" and "The Imperial March" or Darth Vader's theme.
His Star Wars Christmas lights show even feature a full-on light saber battle. The lights were purposely coordinated to shine and change colors to the melody of the songs that would certainly make Yoda proud.
BetGeorge told Yahoo! News, "Honestly, it's a little surreal. It's humbling. I anticipated that a lot of people like 'Star Wars,' but I didn't expect it to blow up like that." He obviously got a lot of attention because of his now-famous Star Wars Christmas lights, a lights show that he worked on for nearly 1,000 hours.
Last year's winner of "The Great Christmas Light Fight" was Kevin Lynch, a retired firefighter from Queens. He covered his entire house and law with over 300 giant plastic figures, 100 animated characters, and 300,000 Christmas lights to entertain the public.
