For those tired of chocolate or vanilla, how about a piece of the world's biggest insect pie?
Topped with glazed grasshoppers, it's the effort by students of a Dutch cooking school in Wageningen to celebrate the launch of the country's first insect cookbook.
Also available at the party - a variety of muffins sprinkled with worms. Insect cooking specialist chef Henk van Gurp encourages foodies to look past the exterior of bugs. Master Chef, Henk Van Gurp, says "We have to overcome the idea that it's scary, because you can prepare it nicely and you can make great dishes."
The cookbook is filled with ideas to include insects into your meal. And experts say they're a viable alternative for meat to feed the growing global population. Professor of Tropical Entomology Arnold van Huis. He says, "Seventy percent of all the agricultural land is already used for livestock and with the growing population and growing welfare, people start consuming more animal protein, so we need alternatives absolutely necessary."
With a hundred-time-lower emission rate of greenhouse gasses than livestock, studies show that raising bugs is also better for the environment. So it's up to the general public to start getting their fingers into the insect pie.
