Google Nexus 9 has been compared to Apple's iPad Air 2 since it has "the most iPad-esque appearance" among all the other Android tablets released, according to Gizmag.
Nexus 9 has been reviewed for its "premium build," fast performance and consistent updates. It has been considered one of the best Android tablets, according to CNET. iPad Air 2, on the other hand, has been dubbed the "gold standard for tablets," CNET reviewed.
Regarding size, the Android tablet is shorter and narrower. iPad Air 2, however, is much more thinner than Nexus, with 6.1mm against 8mm. Although both are light, Apple has a "relative advantage" since it's only three percent heavier even though it has a much larger screen.
The Apple device also has the higher-end when it comes to build materials with its aluminum unibody design. Google has created its gadget with the familiar plastic matte in Nexus' previous devices. Only this time, there's a metal band around the new device's edge.
The resolution of both devices are the same (2048x1536), but since Nexus 9 is smaller, it has a higher pixel density of 288ppi compared to iPad Air 2's 264ppi.
The iPad gadget runs on Apple's A8x chip while Nexus runs on Tegra K1. iPad Air 2 performs faster though with its 64-bit tri-core 1.5GHz processor. In Nexus' case, it runs on a 64-bit dual-core 2.3GHz processor.
Both rear cameras are 8MP but Nexus has 1.6MP front camera compared to iPad's 1.2MP front camera. They also equal in camera aperture of f/2.4. Nexus has a flash, though, but it's the single-LED flash and not the superior dual LED.
Although Apple has an excellent Touch ID sensor and anti-reflective display that Nexus doesn't offer, the latter also has a feature that iPad Air 2 doesn't have: tap-on display. This feature allows the user to double-tap the screen to turn on its display.
At some aspects, the latest iPad Air has a better edge than Nexus 9. Consumers, however, may opt to buy Nexus 9, simply because the Google device is much cheaper by almost $100. The 16GB Nexus costs $349.99 while the 32GB device retails at $429.99 on Amazon. iPad Air 2 was originally sold for $500.
However, Apple fans might be delighted to know that Amazon has cheapen the cost of their iPad Air 2 16GB from $499.99 to $327. Interested buyers must hurry though because only a few stocks remain in the market.
