Oops! ‘The Interview’ Gets Canceled As Actors Seth Rogen, James Franco Enlist Body Guards Amid Threat From Hackers Guardians Of Peace

Sony's "The Interview" starring Seth Rogan and James Franco is no more. At least that's what Sony Pictures Entertainment wants it to be after receiving grim threats from unknown hackers known as Guardians of Peace.

"The Interview" was supposed to premiere on Thursday in New York; however, things didn't look quite well as the premiere atmosphere turned dark because of "9/11-type destruction" threats that the notorious hackers promised, TV Guide has learned.

Prior to its premiere, hacker group Guardians of Peace sent a rather disturbing threat to Sony, which says, "We will clearly show it to you at the very time and places The Interview be shown, including the premiere, how bitter fate those who seek fun in terror should be doomed to. Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made."

Given the dark message, Sony has decided to cancel the movie's premiere in New York but left the decision to theater owners if they are willing to take the risk in airing the controversial film.

"In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film The Interview, we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release. We respect and understand our partners' decision and, of course, completely share their paramount interest in the safety of employees and theater-goers," read their other statement. "We stand by our filmmakers and their right to free expression and are extremely disappointed by this outcome."

Sony's cancellation comes after actors Seth Rogen and James Franco announced that they are withdrawing from media appearances for the film, Buzzfeed has learned.

The duo were set to appear on "Watch What Happens Live," "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and "Late Night with Seth Meyers."

It can be noted that during the Los Angeles premiere of the film last week, Rogen and Franco have denied participation in any interview.

Moreover, since the threats are very alarming, both actors have been provided with "giant" round-the-clock bodyguards.

"They're usually not at all the type to have security. James is the kind of guy who takes the subway all the time," an insider told New York Daily News.

Apart from the security provided to Seth Rogen and James Franco, Sony execs also had a crisis meeting where they discussed the best options they have on how to deal with the hackers.
