Google Drive Update: New Version Allows Users To Upload Files From Other Apps

Google Drive has been updated, letting users to upload their files using other apps and to search files using their voices.

Google announced through its official Google+ page Tuesday that Google Drive has been updated to support other apps and promote voice commands, according to iPhone Hacks.

The new Google Drive version brings new features for Android and iOS users alike, The Next Web reported. Users can now search the files stored on their Drive using the Google app. Google Now's voice commands has also been integrated to the latest update.

iOS users are also given the ability to upload their items to their Drive using applications outside the dedicated Drive app. The update was made possible due to iOS 8's Extensions, which allows addition of folders in iCloud Drive. Even Microsoft's OneDrive has been included in the update.

Fortunately, Apple has recently backed down and reversed their policy that prohibits other apps to upload content to iCloud Drive, according to MacNN News. Files created within the iCould Drive app itself were the only ones allowed until recently. Apple reviewers demanded changes on Transmit, a shareware developed by Panic which allows file transfers for Mac OS X. Panic made a statement in a blog post, where they informed their users that Apple has allowed the restoration of the "Send To" functionality in their Transmit app.

Google Drive for iOS v3.4.0 included bug fixes and improvement in performance. Uploading to Drive from other apps and sources can be executed on devices with iOS 8. It is important to note, however, that the new update for iOS requires iOS 7.0 or later.

Furthermore, the Google Drive update has supported Google's My Maps feature, which allows users to access their custom-made maps whenever they need them.

The company has also created new mobile apps for Docs, Sheets and Slides, which can be used across the Android and iOS platform, according to Google Drive Blog. Users can take advantage of these apps even without internet since they come with offline support.

Google Drive update for iOS has been made available in App Store while Android users will have to wait for the update to "roll out over the next week or so," according to Google's post.
