Denmark owns North Pole - The latest in the bizarre news around the world is on the country Denmark claiming its rightful ownership over the North Pole. While some may look at the North Pole as a barren wilderness filled with only ice boulders and polar bears, people will be surprised to know that a number of countries have been frighteningly mad about owning it.
The latest to claim ownership is the country of Denmark. Denmark owns North Pole that is according to the country. The Scandinavian country had submitted their claim over the area after citing numerous scientific data proving that the continent shelf is "connected to a ridge" which runs under the Arctic Ocean, through the North Pole.
Denmark owning North Pole isn't the first as other countries have claimed their territorial rights over the barren land. These countries include Canada, Norway, United States, and Russia. Even with Denmark's latest claim over its territory being the North Pole, it is still under study by the UN Convention on the Laws of the Sea (UNCLOS).
According to the UNCLOS, a coastal nation can only claim 200 nautical miles beyond its territorial coast. This can then be named its "exclusive economic zone." As far as Denmark owning North Pole, there is still much investigation and research to be done by UNCLOS themselves.
So the next big question is why is Denmark owning North Pole? Pretty much the same reason every other country has been fighting for - all the oil underneath North Pole - and it isn't because Santa Claus lives in the area.
With the latest of Denmark owns North Pole, other countries fighting for territorial claim over it like Russia, Canada, and the United States, would have to step up their game in their scientific data as well. For now, only the UNCLOS can say as to who really owns North Pole.
