A singer from Hungary has claimed that a voice heard in the background of the collaborative song "Drunk in Love" is hers.
Beyonce and Jay-Z have been accused of stealing the voice of a Hungarian singer and using it in the hit single "Drunk in Love," Billboard reported.
Monika Miczura Juhasz, known as Mitsou, filed a civil suit against the couple after Beyonce and Jay-Z allegedly used her voice while she was singing a traditional Roma folk song she learned from her grandmother.
"Mitsou's voice was sampled and digitally manipulated without her permission," the suit wrote.
The music sample has been supposedly used "to evoke foreign eroticism alongside the sexually intense lyrics performed by Beyoncé and Jay Z in 'Drunk in Love,' " the suit continued "In the video, Mitsou's solo vocal introduction follows 57 seconds of a cinematic, intimate scene of beach at night."
"Following Mitsou's stirring featured solo vocal introduction, Mitsou's voice continues to sing as Beyoncé begins to sing." The song continued with Jay-Z rapping with the Hungarian music in the background for 51 seconds, according to the filing.
"All together, Mitsou's vocals are featured for over one and half minutes of the five and one half minute song," the suit said. The original recording of the traditional Roma song, called "Bajba, Bajba Pelem," was published under the title "Gypsy Life on the Road" by North Pacific Records in the year 1997.
The suit also added that "Mitsou has never signed any documents that would permit anyone to use her voice for advertising or trade purposes."
Mitsou claimed to be "an internationally acclaimed Hungarian Roma singer" who was discovered at age 17, according to Page Six.
The charges also involved producer Timbaland. Mitsou is seeking damages and asking the court to prohibit the song from being distributed as long as her voice is in the music.
"Drunk in Love" has been nominated for a Grammy and has become a part of the No. 1 Billboard album "Beyonce." Its music video has also won Best Collaboration at the MTV Video Music Awards. The video has currently around 237 million views in Youtube.
