Miss World 2014 - The winner for the prestigious beauty pageant has finally been announced. People of the world, meet Rolene Strauss of South Africa. Strauss has been crowned the new Miss World 2014. Here's everything to know about the winner.
Miss World 2014 top three winners for the night were Miss South Africa, Miss USA, and Miss Hungary. South Africa scooped up the crown while USA finished in third and Hungary named runner up.
The Philippines failed to take the title of Miss World 2014. Megan Young, last year's winner, handed over the crown to Strauss of South Africa. The 22-year old won the title among 121 contestants in the pageant. Before the winner was announced, joining Strauss in the top ten for the crown were representatives from Mexico, India, Brazil, Australia, Kenya, Guyana, and England.
According to E! report, the new Miss World 2014 will be honoured at the international beauty pageant ICC London grand finale. While the winner of the night will be known around the world, Strauss has long been popular in her country.
The new Miss World 2014 was the first native to have been conceived by test tube in Bloemfontein. Also notable about Strauss is that she's a fourth year medical student. Both parents are in the medical field, being a nurse and a doctor.
"I am the product of two parents who believed," says Strauss in the video introduction for Miss World, adding, "I come from a country where people believed in a brighter future, and in 2014 because of that belief South Africa's celebrating 20 years of democracy."
