Tornado In Los Angeles Spells Disaster As Rooftops, Trees Were Ripped Off And Trash Can Seen Swirling In The Air (VIDEO)

A Los Angeles tornado has brought havoc into the southern part of the city. Fortunately, no one was harmed.

According to USA Today, a small tornado in Los Angels literally caused a stir as rooftops and trees were forcibly damaged and even ripped off.

As per the National Weather Service, an EF-0 tornado touched down in Los Angeles Friday morning at around 9:20 a.m..

"It got a lot of people excited, but thank goodness nobody was hurt," National Weather Service's Stuart Seto said.

The twister reportedly hit across a 10-block span and damaged at least five homes.

Technically, EF-O tornados are considered the smallest type of twisters. They have winds reaching 65 to 85 mph.

In the Enhanced Fujita Scale, the types of tornados based on strength runs from EF-0 to EF-5. Only EF-1 and above can lead to major damage and even deaths.

A resident in the area, Deborah LaVergne, 56, told Los Angeles Times that she was busy preparing turkey sandwiches when she noticed the tornado. She said she looked out their kitchen window, only to find a trash can swirling approximately 30 feet in the air.

Laverne also noted that their building was "shaking" and she heard rumbling noises comparable to a "freight train."

The Los Angeles tornado reportedly damaged Vermont and Gage avenues to Figueroa and 57th streets.

An apartment building's rooftop was ripped off and it quickly flew into the air. Residents said a day care center was also damaged by the twister that lasted for less than a minute, AOL.com reports.

"All of sudden, we heard banging and booming and my door flew open," resident Candy Ward said. "We looked outside and everything was flying down the sidewalk. We saw the roof of the top of my building come flying off," Ward said. "It was really wild."

A raw footage of the incident shows debris flying in the air as roof tiles circled wildly overhead.

In another raw clip, a resident could be heard shouting upon seeing the freaky incident that was largely propelled by the West Coast storm that left over 300,000 without power this week, according to Gawker.
