Montee Ball Injury: Broncos Running Back Dealing With Groin Injury, Placed On Injured Reserve

Monte Ball's injury has turned the supposed Denver Broncos' full-time starter at running back this year into a major letdown, NBC Sports reports.

After entering this season in hopes of coming out as one of this year's elite running backs, Montee Bal's injury has become a major issue that the 24-year-old was instead on injured reserve.

When he was picked up in the second round draft of 2013, all had hopes that the the promising rookie will quickly emerge as one of the best running backs, given his records of 559 years rushing on 4.7 yards per carry.

Contradictory to his record however, Ball just averaged 3.1 yards a carry this season, and was left behind by C.J. Anderson, who has led the team at an average of 5.0 yards a carry; Ronnie Hillman, who has 4.2 yards a carry, and Juwan Thompson, who may have a limited role this season but managed an average of 5.2 yards a carry.

Monte Ball's injury is certainly hindering the undisputed tailback through the organised team activities and minicamp. Hence, the Denver Broncos had to activate linebacker Danny Trevathan from injury reserve and promote Dominique Jones to the 53-player roster, while placing Quentin Carter on injured reserve.

It can be noted that while blocking against Arizona in Week 5, Montee Ball suffered a strained groin injury. After returning six weeks after, he injured his groin yet again and many even noticed that he is not that explosive as before, according to Denver Post.

Prior to the first preseason game, Ball underwent an emergency appendectomy, which has clearly contributed to the noticeable change in his performance.

Monte Ball's injury has left the Broncos with not choice than to get shifty runner Hillman back prior to the playoffs in hopes that the Anderson-Hillman team-up can secure the team a chance to return to the Super Bowl, NFL.com has learned.
