A Rosemary Anderson shooting has left three high school students wounded and hospitalized Friday, according to Portland police.
The three victims of the Rosemary Anderson shooting were identified as 2 males and 1 female and they are high school students of the school that caters to at-risk youths with records of being expelled or dropped out or who may be homeless or living with single parents, Philly reports.
Authorities believe that the incident was gang-related and they have launched a manhunt for the shooter in Portland, Oregon the same day.
The Rosemary Anderson shooting took place at a street corner outside the school, at 3:15 p.m. EST while classes were being held, said police Sgt. Pete Simpson, who also added that the three victims quickly rushed inside the campus when they were shot.
The gunman, on the other hand, has fled and is currently at large; hence, the campus, a nearby high school and a community college were put on lockdown.
The three victims were rushed to Legacy Emanuel Medical Centre and updates say they were breathing and conscious during the transport.
Students from the High School formed a large prayer circle following the shooting, according to Oregon Live.
It isn't clear whether the gunman shot the victims as part of a gang-related attack or if its was purely "personal beef."
A man claiming to be the pastor of one of the Rosemary Anderson shooting victims said the incident was very "heartbreaking."
"The young man I know attends our church frequently who is, according to my understanding, not involved in any criminal activity, he is a bright young man," Cornerstone Community Church of God in Christ Jason Nelson said.
"You hear about shootings every day and when it comes close to your school it's heartbreaking," Nelson added, CNN has learned.
Despite the shooting, Portland Public School Connect boys basketball games will still push through tonight but organisers confirmed that they are enlisting extra security as part of their precautionary measure.
The Rosemary Anderson shooting comes just six months after the Reynolds High School shooting, in which one person was reportedly killed.
For years now, the Portland area is perturbed by gang-related violence. The Police Bureau even reported that authorities have responded to 52-gang-related crimes this year, which is a spike from last year's 35.
