This week, as Christmas becomes very imminent at Mystic Falls, show fans will see a lot of holiday inspired scenes between Bonnie and Elena. At least through flashbacks. After Damon and Elena failed to save our dear witch from the past dimension, it appears that Bonnie will be spending Christmas all alone. But she isn't the only one in misery as Caroline also suffers the repercussions of the things that have happened, preventing her from hosting the traditional holiday party. Actors of the show already teased ahead of Thursday night's airing that there is going to be a heartbreaking moment in the midseason finale. "Dude, there's always deaths, there is a big one coming up, I will say that, there is a big one that's really going to break the people's hearts," Paul Wesley teased. Then, he also addressed the issue whether things will go romantic between him and Caroline. "There's some beautiful moments and I do think ultimately that something will happen. It's just a slow burn," he said.

Exec producer Caroline Dries on the other hand gushed on what's ahead for the possible couple and for the show as a whole. "Their friendship has been through a lot this season, and [Stefan] decides that not only does Caroline need to learn something she doesn't want to learn, but that he's the one who should tell her the news," Dries said of Caroline and Stefan's relationship. "What we'll come to see in the next few episodes is that their relationship will be shaped by this." In addition, Dries opened up on what's in store for Bonnie. "Bonnie, who's one of the strongest women on our show, will prove that she's not going to be down in the dumps," Dries explained. "She tries to make the best of things, and it will help shape her into the character she's going to become starting in the 2015 episodes, where she's going to harden a little bit."
Finally, Dries also said a thing or two about Elena's storyline. "Elena will go through something that reminds her about how important our minutes are on earth, how we spend our time," she said before adding, "She kind of has this revelation about not wasting any time; even if you're immortal, you still need to be grateful for your time here. She really takes that to heart and decides it's time to deal with these feelings she can't seem to shake." Meanwhile, after discovering that Jo has gone missing, Alaric turns to Damon and Elena for help, while Liv and Luke find themselves at odds when Tyler approaches them with a risky plan. Elsewhere, Jeremy helps Matt carry out a plan to take down Enzo but grows concerned when Matt takes things too far. Lastly, Stefan is forced to break some devastating news to Caroline."
