Android Wear Update Download: Google Turns Smartwatches to Personalized Wearables With New Watch Faces

Google isn't a fashion company but it does encourage people to "wear what they want" with the new watch faces for Android Wear.

Google has released an announcement about the updates of Android Wear Wednesday, Android Central reported.

The major update features the functionalities of smartwatches that users have been waiting for since they've been introduced. The main highlight of the update though, is the collection of new watch faces for Android Wear. More watch faces are expected to emerge since Google also released the official Watch Face API. With this, developers can make new styles for the device.

In fact, Google has released a collection of new watch faces on PlayStore. Some of the faces are designed for specific themes, such as Pac Man, Plants Vs. Zombies, Despicable Me, Porsche, Rebecca Minkoff, Craig Ward, Red Bull, Santa Racker and more. A new section of Google PlayStore has been dedicated to showcase the watch faces. Users can download the watch faces just like apps.

Besides design and style, Google has also improved the Android Wear app to make browsing, installing and switching between watch faces a piece of cake for the user, according to Google's official blog. The app also provides easier navigation and allows user to bring back a card that has been dismissed. Users can also easily access recently used apps.

Furthermore, new modes have been added. Users can switch to Theater mode to turn off the display and mute vibrations. There is also Sunlight mode, which provides maximum brightness.

The Android Wear is also expected to run on Android 5.0 soon, according to Android Central.

Android Wear supports both rounded and square-shaped devices. Google has introduced six new watches that feature Android Wear, which are Samsung Gear Live, Sony SmartWatch 3, LG G Watch R, Moto 360, ASUS Zen Watch, and LG G Watch. HTC Watch is planned to feature Android Wear in 2015, according to TechRadar.

Android Wear has been released on June this year and the number of users have been increasing. Making the device as fashionable as it is functional is has been done to get better competition against Apple Watch.
