'Pretty Little Liars' Christmas Special Episode Spoilers: Lucy Hale Shares Teasers on How 'A' Stole Christmas

The Halloween suspense extends until Christmas as the "Pretty Little Liars" celebrates the holiday season in horror. Aria Montgomery herself has even warned viewers what to expect.

Lucy Hale has spilled some details about the upcoming Christmas special episode of "Pretty Little Liars," where she portrays Aria Montgomery, MTV News reported.

The show will feature a Christmas ball where the girls are supposed to be out rejoicing the season. Instead, they are spending the holidays investigating the death of their friend, Mona. Hale said that she's saddened about Mona's death in an interview with MTV News at the ABC Family's Winter Wonderland event.

"The show is different without Mona," she said. "She was my favorite character. It's just how the girls are dealing with her death, and [figuring out] who is behind it. It's almost like a whole new mystery - we started out the show trying to figure out who killed Alison, and now it's moved on to Mona."

Hale said that the anticipated special episode will be "Christmas-y" yet "dark." She considered it as one of the show's darker episodes.

"At the end of the episode, we think that we finally finished this chapter, and we think that things are seemingly going well," Hale shared. "And then obviously, we end the episode with a bang - literally."

"For the second half of the fifth season, something major happens to Alison," Hale teased. "We're trying to protect her again. I can't tell what happens, but there's a lot of mystery still about Alison, and why she does the things that she does."

Although there a lot of suspense to anticipate, Hale brightened up the topic by telling the girls to watch out for some abs.

"You get to see the guys in boxers," Hale said. "That's always exciting, right?"

Meanwhile, Producer I. Marlene King has confirmed the return of one of the most horrific nightmares in the show for the Christmas special, MTV News reported.

"We haven't seen the last of that zombie baby mask," King told MTV News over the phone. "That zombie baby mask makes a special appearance in the episode."

The Christmas special episode of "Pretty Little Liars" airs on Dec. 9 on ABC.
