Paul McCartney Reflected On His Friend, The "Imagine" Singer's Death

The 34th death anniversary of the renowned musician will be on Monday, December 8. Lennon was assassinated by Mark David Chapman in 1980 in New York City.

Just recently, his bandmate Paul McCartney reflected on his death on The Jonathan Ross Show. He referred to Lennon as the "imagine" singer. He said that they were in good terms before the shooting happened way back. McCartney also called Chapman the "jerks of jerks" on air.

McCartney explained that there was acrimony or bad blood in The Beatles, however, he said, they were friends when Lennon got killed. "We used to call each other up and swap bread recipes," McCartney added.

He was at home the news of his friend's assassination reached him through a phone call. He said that what happened was not just a big shock, but was also horrific that he could not believe that he will no longer to see his friend.

"I was at home when he died. I got a phone call. It was so horrific. I could not take it in that he was gone. It was a very big shock. I was so sad that I was not going to see him again," he said.

Despite the intention, McCartney held back his tongue on Chapman. Although, as aforementioned, he offered an insult fit for television. He said, "And the guy who did it was the jerks of the jerks. He was not politically motivated."

McCartney also added that after the end of The Beatles, reconnecting with Lennon meant so much to him. It was about their big business when everything came falling down, Lennon was just a phone call away and he would ring him and be friendly again with each other.

"So now he had a baby and I was bringing up babies so we could talk about that. You could talk about normal stuff so it got very nice and I said, to this day, I'm so glad because it would have been the worst thing in the world to have this great relationship that then soured and he gets killed, so there was some solace in the fact that we got back together. We were good friends."

On the other hand, Chapman stated during his hearing this summer that he was not thinking about anybody else other than himself when he did the murder. However, Chapman apologized to the people that were affected of what he had done since he has been receiving letters. "I am sorry for being such an idiot and choosing the wrong way for glory," he said.
