Windows 10 Updates: Cortana Appears in Microsoft's Newest OS

Cortana is expected to appear inside Microsoft's latest Windows release, Windows 10, The Verge reported.

The intelligent personal assistant, which was inspired from the "Halo" video game series, has finally taken its step out of the mobile platform to assist PC users after an unreleased Windows 10 build has shown Cortana running on desktop.

However, the leaked version does not depict the final user interface and interactions of Cortana in Windows 10. There have been various tests about Cortana's appearance on the desktop, including a Cortana icon on the taskbar instead of a search button. It is speculated that Cortana will look "10 times better" once it's released to the public, according to WinBeta.

The PC version of Cortana can also perform the capabilities of the Windows phone version. The digital assistant can set reminders, call people through Skype, check user's location, display maps, play music, launch applications, check the weather, and more.

Although Cortana does not have a personality in Windows 10 to answer certain questions, such as "who are you" as of the moment, critics are confident that the AI will have the ability by the time it appears the following year.

Just like in Windows phones, Cortana is capable of speaking in Windows 10 and it is speculated that Jen Taylor is still the voice actress. In some cases, however, the personal assistant will resort to its default robotic voice.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has been making preparations for their presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show on January the following year. A source has stated that Microsoft will also hold a separate press event in late January to discuss the consumer features on Windows 10.

The company has first revealed the new operating system at a low-key event in San Francisco, according to The Verge. It has also been promoting Cortana through a preview launch held in France, Italy, Germany and Spain.
