Chlorine gas Chicago - A "Furry" convention held at Chicago was cut short after a chlorine gas leak. Around 19 have been rushed to the hospital following the incident. What could have led to the gas leak?

"Technicians decontaminated the area and after conducting several tests deemed the area safe within about two hours. People were allowed back into the building around 3:30 a.m. Some convention-goers, some of whom were dressed up as animal characters, stood outside of the building. Hundreds more were escaping the chilly weather at other buildings," reports the Chicago Tribune who was first at the scene.

A chlorine gas Chicago leak had cut a "Furry" convention short at a Rosemont Hotel. Early Sunday, a number of people wearing animal costumes were found rushing outside the street. The chlorine gas leak caused attendees of the convention to feel sick. In fact, 19 of them were already rushed to the hospital. However, one of them remains in treatment.

"I think we'll recover from this," says 28-year old Kit McCreedy of Wisconsin in a report by the Star Tribune. McCreedy was dressed as a fox for the "Furry" convention. "People are tired but they're still full of energy."

Following the chlorine gas Chicago leak at the Hyatt Hotel in Rosemont Avenue, an emergency decontamination took place. As for the source of the said leak, investigations claim it came from the ninth-floor stairwell where chlorine powder was found. The Rosemont Public Safety Department is now treating the incident as a criminal matter.

The said "Furry" convention could have offended fur-activists which prompted the chlorine gas Chicago leak. Those who attended the convention however defended it claiming there was no real fur used. The costumes used at the event utilized foam and fake fur.

Despite the chlorine gas Chicago leak, the convention attracted more than 4,000 people which marks it as the second largest convention involving fur costumed people in the United States.
