Xbox Live has once again become a victim of Lizard Squad's hacking antics. It would appear that this infamous group of hackers has opted not to wait until Christmas to victimize it again.
Lizard Squad launched a DDoS attack on Friday night, taking down the online service. They even wrote on their official Twitter account, "Xbox Live #offline." This outage has only affected that Xbox Live and Xbox 360 units. Fortunately for those who are on the Xbox One, its online service is working normally.
As of this morning, the Xbox 360 still has some issues as its users are not able to sign in or even download certain apps.
An update on the Xbox Live Status page, which was published just this morning, said, "We want you to know we're aware of the issue and currently hard at work to find a fix. Thanks for being patient during this process. We'll update you when more information is available."
Sadly for this internationally famous game console, this is actually the second time, this week alone, that Lizard Squad has launched an attack on Xbox Live. Just four days ago, the service was also brought down.
Surprisingly, the Twitter account of Lizard Squad has not been suspended. They have been writing some posts that seem to hint at more mischief that has been set to come either today or on Sunday. They wrote, "This will be an entertaining weekend. Time to resume the chaos."
During the group's previous attack, Lizard Squad had promised that they will be taking down Xbox Live on Christmas. It appears that they just could not wait for the holidays to cause more inconvenience to Xbox gamers and carried out their intentions at a much earlier time.
Lizard Squad first became famous when they launched a DDoS attack on PSN three months ago. They brought down the service on all of its platforms. It was also during that very same weekend when they brought down various PC games, such as PlanetSide 2, League of Legends, and World of Warcraft.
