Moscow Skyscraper Catches Fire

Moscow's Federation Tower, which was designed to be the tallest building in Europe and is still under construction, caught fire on Monday (April 2) late in the evening.

The fire appeared to have died down within two hours but then broke out again and expanded.

According to preliminary information, the fire spread through construction material and thermal insulation. Russian television reported the fire broke out at the level of 66th-67th floor.

Fire workers planned to use helicopter to put out the fire, Russian television reported. Workers left the building as police asked the reporters beneath the tower to leave the dangerous area close to the building.

No casualties or injuries have been reported so far. The Federation Tower, designed to be 93 floors high once finished, has been slated for completion in 2013.
