Disney Announces Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson for 'Moana' Role

Dwayne Johnson shouldn't settled in simply being "The Rock" so Disney got the perfect role for him.

Disney is borrowing the voice of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for their upcoming animated film, according to Variety.

The actor confirmed his involvement in the musical movie through twitter Wednesday, Huffington reported. Johnson shared his excitement in becoming the voice of the demi-god Maui.

"Excited to star as "Maui" in Disney's next big animated musical, MOANA. Incredible story!

**clears throat," Johnson posted with hashtag #TimeToSing.

"Moana" is CG-animated comedy-adventure film set in the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania. The movie plot revolves around a young adventurous girl with the same name as the movie. Her story will unfold as she searches for a legendary island with Maui, Johnson's character, who is a mythological being who took the islands from the sea. The demi-god also caught the son atop Haleakala, Hawaii's highest peak, with a rope.

Disney has presented the movie to contain action-packed voyage, tremendous sea monsters and breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.

Currently, Auckland-based agency CNA Casting has announced an audition searching for a Kiwi girl aged 14 to 18 years old with amazing singing voices to cast as Moana together with "The Rock." Submission for the audition will close on Saturday and so far, the agency has been overwhelmed by the entries submitted, 3News reported.

Ron Clements and John Musker, who are from the team who brought "The Little Mermaid," "Aladdin," and "The Princess and the Frog," are co-directing the film, according to The Wrap. Musker described Moana's character as someone people should anticipate.

"Moana is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself," Musker said. "She's the kind of character we all root for, and we can't wait to introduce her to audiences."

"Moana" will be Johnson's first voice-over role since 2009's "Planet 51." The 42-year-old actor will appear in Universal's "Furious 7," which will premiere on April next year, and "San Andreas," on May. He is also casting Black Adam in the superhero film "Shazam," which is based on the DC comics.

"Moana" will be released on November 23, 2016.
