In 2012, the "Gangnam Style" music video was once rumored to fulfill the controversial "end of the world" prediction of Nostradamus. Could it be that the great prophet meant the Youtube's counter limit?
No one has been able to break the internet so far but PSY did a good job breaking Youtube's video counter on Monday, according to Billboard.
Google shared on their own social networking site Google Plus their disbelief when the PSY's "Gangnam Style" was watched more than 2 billion times.
"We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), but that was before we met PSY," the company stated.
Youtube made a comment in the video, telling viewers to hover over the video counter, where the team left an easter egg. Upon hovering, the numbers would spun like a slot machine until a negative value shows up then goes back to its original count.
The music video of "Gangnam Style" has been viewed so many times that Youtube had to upgrade their system to a 64-bit integer. PSY will need 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 views to break the counter again.
PSY's music video is still the most-watched Youtube video of all time. "Gangnam Style" brought instant fame to the south korean singer after it was first uploaded in July 2012, according to Today. In the same year it was uploaded, the music video reached 1 billion views.
An internet expert gave an estimation of $51,925 profit for Youtube after the video was released 3 months after. The company gained this much by merely hosting the video and a portion of the advertising revenue, according to MailOnline.
The music video is continually gaining views as of the moment. By Wednesday morning, "Gangnam Style" got 5 million more views, Today reported.
PSY, whose real name is Park Jae-sang, has released several music videos besides "Gangnam Style." PSY's follow-up video, "Gentleman," has been viewed 762.2 million after it was uploaded in Youtube in 2013. Meanwhile, his Snoop Dogg collaboration music video entitled "Hangover" currently has more than 162.3 million views, Fuse TV reported.
