The original PlayStation was released in Japan in the year 1994. Back then, competition in gaming market was very intense. When Sony announced the release of their own gaming console, the company was considered "slightly crazy," according to PlayStation. Sony was known for developing great electronics, audio devices and many other consumer electronic equipments. No one expected for the company to launch a gaming console at that time.
However, Sony Computer Entertainment founder Ken Kutaragi pursued the project. It was made out of sincere passion and deep admiration for the craft of game development. In the mid '90s, powerful 3D graphics rendering hardware were inexpensive, which allowed game developers to succeed further in developing games. Immediately, development studios emerged and developing games has been rampant.
The original PlayStation was aimed "to embody that sense of adventure and discovery." Its goal was to give the feeling that "anything was possible."
New deals are expected throughout December. PlayStation Plus members are also eligible to purchase selected games with 10% discount. For those who are interested to purchase the special PS4 edition, PlayStation will start accepting pre-order on Dec. 6.
