One story for such matter is about a man hoping to gain more discounts by wearing an army ranger uniform. He was unluckily caught be a real army veteran who exposed his phony identity.
A YouTube video has gained quite a number of views which involves a fake army ranger confronted by an authentic army veteran in a mall at Pennsylvania. In the video that lasts three minutes and 26 seconds, the veteran notices the guy in the army ranger suit and starts asking questions about his badges.
The fake army ranger confronted by Ryan Berk, the veteran from 101st Airborne Division, gets asked about his Combat Infantry Badges. The fake army ranger, whose name according to the nameplate stuck on the uniform is Yetman, claims he got all three CIBs from Afghanistan. Berk claims this is highly impossible as he needs to be in three separate campaigns to get such badges.
After asking questions on the CIBs, the fake army ranger confronted by Berk walks away after allegedly getting a call from his sergeant major. At this point, Berk calls out the man as a phony and that his methods of using an army uniform to get discounts is illegal.
Under the Stolen Valor Act, it is a crime to wear uniforms by the military for the sole purpose of getting free services and goods, or getting huge discounts. The fake army ranger confronted by Berk could have purposely worn the uniform to get more discounts out of the Black Friday deals.
As for the video showing the fake army ranger confronted by Berk, Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick of the R-8th District claims the man named Yetman may be charged with a federal crime. Check out the video of the fake army ranger confronted by a real army veteran below.
