Old City Of Jerusalem Built In Ice

Thirty five skilled ice sculptors from across the world flocked to Jerusalem's old train station to create a mini-version of the Old City.

It's Jerusalem's first International Ice Festival, modeled after the annual Harbin festival in China. Visitors, who are more used to the sun-baked temperatures of the Middle East, were in awe as they walked through the icy gates of Jaffa.

An Israeli visitor, Hodaya comments that, "It is amazing beside the fact that it is freezing here but it is really nice, it shows all the sites in Jerusalem which is the holy city in Israel."

Other large-scale models of the city's landmarks were built, as well as scenes from biblical stories such as Noah's Ark.

Organizers hope the event will offer a "cool" alternative for the thousands who visit the city each year. The inaugural Jerusalem International Ice Festival runs until April 4th.
