Amazon Shipping Robots? Fleet Of Robotic Employees To Help Ship Millions Of Customer Orders Over The Holiday Season

Amazon shipping robots will be everyone's helping personnel over the Holiday Season. And yes! The big retailer company isn't at all kidding.

Things are about to take a techie turn in Amazon this year. The Seattle, Washington-headquartered electronic commerce company has announced that instead of overworking their employees to meet the skyrocketing demand for order shipping and delivery over the holidays, it has instead decided to invest on over 15,000 wheeled robots, ABC News has learned.

These Amazon shipping robots are designed to efficiently locate products on the retailer's warehouses and deliver all kinds of products to employees, so that the later can save time in looking for the items and process them for delivery.

"We pick two to three times faster than we used to," Rejinaldo Rosales, 34, an employee of Amazon's distribution centre in Tracy, California said. "It's made the job easier."

The strategic Amazon shipping robots are 320 pounds and 16 inches tall and they are optimally designed to left heavy shelves of items across a warehouse, without even bumping into one another.

The helpful devices are manufactured by Kiva Systems, which Amazon purchased in 2012 for $775 million. The company then started using these robots in July.

According to TIME, Amazon has shelled three quarters of a billion dollars just to produce 15,000 of these devices, so as to keep up with the increasing demands of its customers.

So far the Amazon shipping robots have significantly increased operations efficiency, as per a statement from Amazon Senior Vice President of Operations Dave Clark.

Latest data from the giant retailer revealed that they are getting an average of 426 orders per second starting Cyber Monday last year.

Despite spending much too much for these Kiva devices, Clark claims that they are "not eliminating jobs" from their human employees.

"The work pace is faster and the robots are continuously coming," Gilbert proudly added. "We have a lot more people that have come in to work and help us out."

For the holiday quarter alone, Amazon is expected to gain as much as $27.3 billion to $30.3 billion in revenue. The figure is attainable provided the company ships 700,000 items in a day with the help of the Amazon shipping robots.
