Although Genie admitted that Sharapova is her childhood idol growing up, the latest gossip in the tennis might turn her casual relationship with the five-time Grand Slam winner into one of the fiercest rivalries in women's tennis on and off the court.
Bouchard, who was recently crowned as the WTA Tour Most Improved Player of the Year after reaching three Grand Slam semis and playing in his first Slam final at the Wimbledon Open this year, is being linked with Sharapova's boyfriend, Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria.
According to Singaporean tennis site Tennis Tonic, the gossip all started when the 20-year old blonde had a one-day escapade with Dimitrov in Acapulco to promote the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL.
The Bulgarian admitted that he had really great time with Bouchard, describing his date with the Canadian in the picturesque beach of Acapulco as something that he will remember always.
"This is definitely the best experience I've ever had on tour. I was happy to be able to do something like this. It is pretty special and we definitely have something to talk about in the future. It was nice to get to do this in such good weather, great city. It was very exciting!"
Dimitrov's comments about his Acapulco trip certainly triggered speculations that their vacation gave birth to a new-found relationship between Dimitrov and the Canadian tennis star.
