Darth Vader Actor Dementia: David Prowse Reveals His Mental Condition Is Keeping Him From Joining ‘Star Wars 7’

Darth Vader Actor Dementia - David Prowse, an English bodybuilder and weightlifter who rose to fame after playing Darth Vader in the "Star Wars" movies, has revealed that he has a condition that degenerates his mental ability.

According to TMZ, the 79-year-old actor, who wore the original Darth Vader suit in the first "Star Wars" films, has revealed the main reason why he is not joining "Star Wars 7."

Prowse dished that though he would love to take active participation and join the original cast in the upcoming trilogy as cameo, it's best that he didn't because of dementia.

The Darth Vader actor's dementia revelation comes a few hours after the first trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was released online, reports The Independent.

Though of course it won't be possible to play his original role since Darth Vader is dead, Prowse admitted that he was hoping to play a cameo in the J.J. Abrams-helmed flick.

"Of course, Vader got killed off and there was no way back," Prowse said. "But the fans ask me if I'm going to be in the new movies and I just say 'Sorry, not that I know of.'" he said. "I would have loved to have done something in it, even if it was just a cameo, but I would probably forget my lines."

In the original "Star Wars" movies, Prowse was the man inside Vader's suit and heavy helmet. On the other hand, it was James Earl Jones who was voicing the Sith Lord.

"Sometimes I can't remember things I did yesterday," the Darth Vader actor's dementia revelation began. "That worries me more than not remembering something 20 years ago. There's nothing you can do. They've put me on tablets. I don't feel it working though. I don't feel improved at all."

"I don't feel in any shape or form like I am demented - I'm not staggering around and I've never worried about it. It's other people who noticed it - my wife has probably noticed it more than me," Prowse added.

Prowse played the iconic character from 1977 to 1983, appearing in "Star Wars," "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi," according to Mirror.

The Dark Vader actor's dementia revelation comes ahead of the confirmation that original actors Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are making special appearances in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
