Black Friday deals have engulfed the United Kingdom. Fights were breaking out in different parts of the stores as shoppers were starting to get aggressive with their bargain hunting.
Some stores were forced to close, while many retailers' websites ended up crashing after hundreds, if not thousands, of shoppers scrambled to get their hands on the best Black Friday deals.
Police got calls and had to report to at least 16 Tesco branches across the nation. The staff was far too overwhelmed by the 500-strong crowds that ultimately battled over discounted kitchen appliances, clothing, and even discounted television sets.
In one scene, a senior police officer called the attention of some shoppers, compelling them to think, "What on Earth was I doing?" Perhaps, due to their strong desire to acquire the best Black Friday deals, they became far too aggressive towards their fellow shoppers.
A huge number of stores had to close after various fights broke out between shoppers who tried to get their hands on certain sale stock.
A spokesperson of the local police even reported that a woman was injured at a Tesco branch in Stretford, Manchester, "after being hit by a falling television." Also, a man was arrested by the police on suspicion of assault at another Tesco store in Salford.
Due to the graveness of the incidents in some areas, the Greater Manchester police force even used their official Twitter account to urge customers to remain calm as they shopped for the Black Friday deals that they have had their sights on.
Some shoppers were strongly determined to bag a bargain, no matter what kind of discounted item it was.
Louise Haggerty, a waitress and hairdresser who was out shopping at Sainsbury's at 1:00 a.m., said, "I got a Dyson, but I don't even know if I want it. I just picked it up." Haggerty initially wanted a new flat-screen TV, "but so many people pushed in the queue, we didn't have a chance. People were behaving like animals. It was horrible."
